Ustad Vilayat Khan
Ustad Vilayat Khan was an Indian classical sitar player, considered one of the greatest sitarists of his age. He, along with Imdad Khan and others, developed the gayaki ang technique on the sitar, emulating vocal melisma in Hindustani classical music. He composed music for films like Jalsaghar and The Guru, and helped launch singer Kavita Krishnamurthy’s career. Born in Gouripur, Mymensingh, he trained in the Imdadkhani gharana, a family tradition recognized for its musical excellence.
