Sonarupa was started for precisely this reason, for Gujuratis living far away, who felt the need for a connection to their mother country. Chandu Mattani emigrated to Central Africa as an entrepreneur, and then to England in the 70s. By the mid 80s, he had set up the Sonarupa music label.
